TIPS FOR SELECTING THE RIGHT TILE

Choosing tiles for your home is very crucial as there are a lot of factors that you need to consider. You must keep in mind that not all tiles are created equal. Simply put, there are many differences to regard when deciding the application intended. Here are some tips and advice to help you pick the right tiles for your home.

  1.  Decide on Durability (Ceramic and Porcelain tiles)Determining suitable tile choices for your application is made easy by a rating system called the PEI scale where the surface of a tile is classified from Class 1 to Class 5, 1 being the least resistant and 5 being most resistant to abrasion. While any tile is applicable on walls, floor tiles need more durability to resist the impact of foot traffic. Class 2 or greater level tiles are the perfect choice for light residential use while Class 3 or greater tiles are ideal for high traffic areas like kitchens and entryways of rooms.
  2. Choose a SizeThe best tiles range from tiny 3/8″ mosaics to a 5’x10’ porcelain panel and more. Sizing tiles to a room requires you to capture a proportional and relative look. You can achieve this by fitting at least 3 pieces of the same size in a row across the floor. Using larger tiles can help you limit pattern effects of grout which makes a space look spacey and larger.
  3. The Rules of ColorsIt is of course up to your preference which color schemes are right for your room. However, here are some basic rules to consider. Lighter colors make your space larger while darker ones add warmth and hide dirt well. On the other hand, neutral colors make your space more flexible in terms of the decors and accessories you want to put. Manmade stone tiles and natural stone will differ each time they are produced, so better see a couple of pieces before choosing one.
  4. TexturesTextured or tiles with a matte finish are less slippery compared to smooth or shiny Thus, it is best to use textured or matte finish tiles as flooring in areas that are prone to moisture such as bathrooms and kitchens. On the contrary, shiny and smooth tiles are best suited for bathroom walls and others.
  5. Select a StyleRustic or stone-looking tiles and tumbled marble look good with any décor. They are also excellent at hiding dirt. Marbleized tiles, on the other hand, give off a more formal look. White “subway” tiles are always trendy while glass and metal tiles are commonly used in combination with ceramic tiles and natural stones for a unique installation.
  6. Choose a GroutUsing a grout that matches the tile would make the grout lines disappear. This is usually recommended to achieve a clean and cohesive look. However, for a dramatic look, the trick is to use a contrasting color to make the individual tiles stand out. Also ask your design consultant about stain proof grout for those hard to keep clean

With these already in mind, you can now easily choose the right tiles. Make your home look as perfect as possible with the application of perfectly chosen tiles!
